Respice Finem- Keep the End in View

The journey has been long, and i'm glad that it is coming to an end. Starting off this semester, I wanted to create a jewellery line that was inspired by under the sea. The idea was born from being under lockdown and not being able to be in Halifax in the studio due to Covid19. I decided that I would draw inspiration from my surroundings, and use materials that I could source here at home. From this was born my Under the Sea collection.

Although I decided to stick with the same subject matter of last semester's studio, I believe that my work has developed.

This jewellery line tells the story of jewellery defined by organic forms, playful colour arrangements, habitats, and my appreciation for nature and contemporary adornment. I intended for my work to imitate coral life forms and act as an augmentation to the body of the wearer.

I do believe I was successful in creating such pieces.

What I Have Learned

I have learned a lot about rubber and silicone, which is to be expected after so many failed trials. More than anything, I've learned to believe in my artistic ability and to stop questioning myself. I learned to flow with my work. What I mean by this is that i've learned to get stuck in the research phase of my work. I have a habit of needing to know everything that's needed to know about my materials, or subject matter, sometimes going too deep. I tend to loose myself in my sketchbook and spend less time actually creating. But boy, when I do start to create, beautiful things come from it. I think that in this semester i've finally gotten to my "Ah Ha!" moment, that I searched for in my entire university experience. I've learned confidence, I've learned trust, I've learned patience.

Scroll Below for a Sneak Peak of my end of year pieces - I don't want to give it all away in my blog, I'll save the rest of the pieces for my presentation. :)

I think your work really fits perfectly with your theme - "Underwater World". I'm always shocked by the way you put all sorts of bright, hard-to-match colors together in your work, and even more shocking is how well the colors work together. It's really incredible!
