SCKYE DICKINSON
About the Artist
Born in Bermuda in 1997, Sckye Dickinson completed an associates degree of Art and Design (Honors) in 2017. She went on to obtain a Bachelors of Fine Arts majoring in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing at Nova Scotia Art and Design University and is projected to graduate in 2021. Dickinson’s work is inspired by the island that she lives and grew up in. While she does use traditional jewellery techniques and materials, she mainly focuses on alternative materials. Recently she has been using 3D printing for mold making, silicone and rubber to create organic forms inspired by Bermuda’s sea life. Her organic sea forms act as an augmentation to the body, while bringing a sense of calmness through material and color choices.

The Sea Urchin Collection
Inspired by my love and interest in the water, this collection is a reflection of my birthplace, Bermuda. My objective was to create a jewelry line influenced by underwater sea life. The forms I've created emulate the organic forms seen in the ocean, while the bright colors were specifically chosen to mimic those that occur naturally.
Silicone and rubber were the materials I chose to relate to the visual and physical elements of underwater inhabitants. The elasticity of both of these materials allows for an aesthetically pleasing tactile feature of the pieces. My process includes 3D printing for molds and casting with my desired material. These wearable sea forms act as an extension to the body of the wearer and bring a sense of playfulness.
