I finally received my materials from my shipping company. It's been a long wait. So far here is what i've accomplished and discovered.

The first set of pictures are a few items that i've collected from various beaches and locations on the island. The items are bits of sea glass, shell fragments, and rocks. I've also collected pieces of rope and seaweed.

I noticed that sometimes the fluidity is lost when attempting to create organic shapes on Rhino. So I decided to try something different. The second picture below features shell fragments and a rock in dixie cups. I used these cups to create silicone molds of these items.

Above are the three individual cured silicone molds. The first picture is the rock, the second and third pictures are from the shells.

I decided to use two different materials to make the molds to see if there was any difference. Above is a two part mold putty. I really do enjoy using the putty because it is less messy than silicone and is able to get a good indentation and pick up a lot of detail from the objects that i'm using. I tried to create this same shape on Rhino and was unsuccessful. The results from this were so much better.

The above picture shows rubber poured into the silicone mold. I made sure to use a proper mold release to ensure that both parts didn't bind into each other.

Here are some of the results (these components are made from resin):

These are ideas I wanted to try:

Glad to hear your materials arrived. It looks like you also had the ring you designed in Rhino 3D printed in the meantime. In your castings, I think the limpet looks like an intriguing form, and one that cannot be created in Rhino. How do you feel about the connection/tension between the hard blue plastic band and the collaged cast elements? The last sample with the mint green disk and knotting looks like an intriguing new dircetion~

I agree, it isn't easy trying to create true organic shapes in Rhino. Let's just say, my level of skill on Rhino doesn't go that far!!

You've started to really use colour in these pieces which is exciting to see. Also, I like that thought of an entire underwater eco-system contained in a ring!
